What are LAS and LAZ files?
LAS is the standard file format for point clouds from LiDAR scanners and drone photogrammetry. Each point stores its X, Y and Z position and usually its color, intensity and classification (ground, vegetation, buildings…). LAZ is the same data compressed without loss, typically several times smaller.
Drone mapping and survey tools such as Pix4D, DJI Terra, Agisoft Metashape and RealityCapture export LAS or LAZ, and so do terrestrial and mobile laser scanners. These files are often too large to email and need special software to open — ShareLAS turns them into a link instead.
Frequently asked questions
Can I open a LAS file online without installing software?
Yes. Drop the .las file on this page and it opens as a 3D point cloud right in your web browser — Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari, on a computer, tablet or phone. Nothing is uploaded, and you do not need CloudCompare, a GIS or any desktop LiDAR software.
Is this LAS viewer free?
Yes, with no ads. Opening a file on this page is free, with no account. To share it, the free plan converts one point cloud up to 200 MB into a 30-day link with 20 views included — no credit card. Paid plans add storage for multi-gigabyte surveys and longer-lived links.
Does it open LAZ files too?
Yes. LAZ is LAS compressed without losing any points, and ShareLAS opens both. Uploading the LAZ is faster because the file is several times smaller.
Can I send the point cloud to someone else?
Yes — that is what ShareLAS is for. Every upload gets a share link. Whoever opens it sees the same 3D viewer, with no account and nothing to install.
Who can see my point cloud?
Only people who have its link. Links are long and random, they are not listed anywhere or indexed by search engines, and you can delete a point cloud at any time — the link stops working immediately.
Can I view a LAS file on my phone?
Yes. This page works in your phone’s browser, and the free ShareLAS app for Android opens LAS and LAZ files straight from WhatsApp, Gmail or Drive. Shared links stream the point cloud in pieces, so even large surveys open on a phone or tablet.
Free plan, no ads. Your clients never need an account.
